Fumigation refers to a protective measure used by countries around the world to protect local natural resources from exotic species. Fumigation is required for all possible logistics of pests and diseases on forest resources, including and not limited to raw wooden packaging and products.
The glassware that we receive from our customers for shipment to Poland is fragile glassware that needs to be packed in wooden crates/wooden pallets to ensure safe transport. The wooden boxes are made of solid wood and need to comply with the export inspection and quarantine system and for the ecological safety of the destination country all wooden boxes need to be fumigated in order to kill any insect eggs that may be carried in the wood.
Countries and regions that require fumigation are: USA, Canada, Australia, Korea, Japan, Australia, EU countries and Taiwan, China. Therefore when exporting to these places, many mills are required to issue a fumigation certificate. The USA, Mexico and Canada have the most stringent penalties for non-fumigation and all fines are returned.
