On April 26, 2013, a whistle cut through the sky, and the first Chengdu-Europe Express Railway (later named China-Europe Railway Express) departed from Chengdu International Railway Port and went straight to the hinterland of the European continent-Lodz, Poland. Trains run on, creating a new route for Chengdu to connect with the world, witnessing the great changes on the “Silk Road”.
On November 8, 2021, the first China-Europe Express train from Chengdu to Rzepin, Poland, departs from Chengdu International Railway Port with electronic products, auto parts, department stores and other goods. So far, the Chengdu China-Europe train has been in operation for eight years. Over the past eight years, Chengdu Qingbaijiang Railway Port has operated more than 8,000 China-Europe trains and more than 13,000 international trains. The number of overseas stations increased to 67, and a global land and sea freight distribution system was established with Chengdu as the main hub, with Europe in the west, Mongolia and Russia in the north, Japan and South Korea in the east, and ASEAN in the south.
Since 2016, TCL Technology Group, a home appliance manufacturer headquartered in Huizhou, Guangdong, has transferred part of its production capacity to Chengdu and shipped its products to Europe through China-Europe Express. In 2020, TCL will pack an average of two freight trains a week to transport goods to Europe, which is equivalent to transporting more than 4,000 containers of products throughout the year.
As of last month, Sichuan manufacturer Changhong Group has chartered ten trains to Europe this year, equipped with smart home appliances such as refrigerators and LCD TV components. The company will maintain the frequency of one or two departures a month.
In 2020, 150.7 billion yuan of inbound and outbound cargo transportation on Chengdu routes will strongly stimulate Sichuan’s foreign trade.
